May The ‘God Of Knowledge’ Smile On Students!

Dear Fellow-Bhagavathas,

Another academic year is drawing to a close with examinations approaching fast and students are leaving no stone unturned as regards preparation. To lend a divine touch to the earnest exercise, the temple, for the past four years, has been organising ‘Vidhyaa Abhivrudhdhi Sankalpa Archanai’ in the month of February.

So much so, this has turned out to be a highlight in the temple’s annual calendar and parents look forward to it eagerly ever since the dawn of the New Year.

ஞாநாநந்தமயம் தேவம் நிர்மல ஸ்படிகாக்ருதிம்!
ஆதாரம் ஸர்வ வித்யாநாம் ஹயக்ரீவம் உபாஸ்மஹே!!
(Sri Hayagriva Sthothram - 1)

“We worship the horse-necked Lord Hayagriva who is the very personification of knowledge and bliss, whose form is like an unblemished crystal and who is the source of all kinds of learning.”

If it is something to do with knowledge, it has got to be Lord Lakshmi Hayagriva, a favourite deity of Swami Desika, the ‘Sarva-thanthra Swathanthra’. So, this year the event was held on Feb. 22, Sunday, with close to 2,000 students benefiting from it. Archanai was performed almost throughout the day and Prasaadhams distributed. Those who missed out that day, or came to know only later, can still make use of the arrangement.

May the ‘God of Knowledge’ lend His helping hand (literally) to all young devotees in their exams and bestow the best of blessings on them!

Live webcast of Upanyasam

In another ‘first’ from the temple and the website, a three-day Upanyasam series (Feb. 19 to 21) by renowned scholar Sri U. Ve. Velukkudi Krishnan Swami, was webcast live. The reception was great as over a thousand ‘unique visits’ of live watching recorded all over the world. Hope the quality of streaming was high and the programme enjoyable.

Though several Uthsavams, besides the Maha Samprokshanam in 2013, have been streamed live in the past, this is the first time a discourse is webcast.

The topic was ‘Paramanai Patrum Padi’, i.e., the means to attain the Lord. The Upanyasakar held the audience of nearly a thousand in rapt attention in his characteristic style as he explained in detail as to how ‘Prapaththi’ is the most viable path in order to attain ‘Purushaarththam’ (the Lord’s feet or Moksham), citing examples from Ithihasas, Puraanas, Divya Prabandham and so on. He underlined the pride of place of Acharyas in Srivaishnava Sampradaya and the pivotal role played by them in helping aspiring disciples through to the divine destination.

Extolling the greatness of Swami Desika, Sri Krishnan Swami delineated how the Acharya is an epitome of knowledge, austerity, nobility and adherence to Saasthras, drawing from his illustrious life history.

Meet you in the next Note.
