It'S All About Announcements

Dear Fellow-Bhagavathas,

New series 'Acharya Vamsa Vruksham':

The concept of Acharya is the cornerstone of our Sampradaya. Sriman Narayana Himself chose to lead from the front by being the Prathama Acharya (First Preceptor). So, the significance of the Guru Parampara can never be over-emphasised.

In order that we admire their extra-ordinary deeds for our Sampradaya and remember them with gratitude, a new series 'Acharya Vamsa Vruksham' (meaning Lineage Tree of Preceptors) authored by Anbil Sri Ramaswamy, U.S.A., is being started in our website from today with a Preamble. This series deals with the life history of our preceptors right from Sriman Narayana, through Bhagavath Ramanuja upto Swami Vedantha Desika. Episodes will be uploaded progressively on the 15th of every month, with the first one coming up on February 15.

ThirupPavai Upanyasam Audio

The customary ThirupPavai discourse during the month of Margazhi organised by Veda Parayana Sabha of the Temple this year featured Villur Sri U.Ve. Karunakaracharyar Swami. We are pleased to present excerpts from his enthralling discourse in the form of downloadable audio clippings (about 30 minutes each) of select paasurams. This can be accessed from What's New or Gallery or here.

"கோதை தமிழ் ஐயைந்தும் ஐந்தும் அறியாத மானிடரை வையம் சுமப்பதும் வம்பு"

So, let us attempt to learn at least a few, if not all the 30, by listening to these clippings!

Quiz Master in You

We started this feature a few months ago with a view to providing an opportunity to the participants to submit questions (three per month) which could be considered while setting the quiz "Trail Our Glorious Samprada'. An interface (page) was specifically created for this and was so announced. However, it is surprising that we continue to receive questions through the sender's personal e-mail account or other links in the site.

We would like to reiterate that only those questions which are received through the 'Quiz Master in You' interface. will be considered. The final question slot has been earmarked for the participants who are requested to make use of the opportunity to be part of the quiz-setting process (albeit in a small way).

For any clarification, one can contact me at +91 94444 – 13746.

The risk in chase of 'first'

An interesting feedback has been received from E. Sridhar, Chennai – 4, which says that the new feature 'First Among the Best' would add seriousness as well as thrill to the quiz programme. I am sure he means that this would give enough incentive to participants to initiate the 'answering process' at their earliest (immediately upon the quiz being posted on the 1st).

Even as it is an earnest opinion, a small thought flashed past the mind while reading it. 'Seriousness' is perfectly all right as that is the main idea whereas 'thrill' is a dicey element. While the 'thrill' factor is certainly there, one hopes it does not lead to the case of 'haste makes waste'. As has been mentioned in these columns earlier, a note of caution will be in order. Accuracy should not be sacrificed for the sake of urgency. It is suggested that participants exercise enough care and discretion while answering the quiz.

And finally, Periyavaachaan Pillai's classic PaasurapPadi Ramayanam -- an amalgam of phrases narrating important events in Ramayana, extracted and strung together solely from Divya Prabandham -- has been uploaded and can be accessed from What's New.

Meet you in the next Note.
