90th Avathara (Prathishta) Day - An Event To Cherish

Dear Fellow-Bhagavathas,

The 90th Avathara (Prathishta) Day Uthsavam conducted at the temple from 9th to 11th May is an occasion to cherish forever. It was the day (Chiththirai-Hastham) on which Lord Srinivasa, along with His Consort Sri Alarmelmanga, chose to descend on this temple in 1924, in order to bless in person a distinguished devotee Sri Vedantha Desika. The illustrious Acharya had already taken his abode here about three centuries prior to that.

The event, steeped in tradition, devotion and divinity, was marked by reverberating Vedic chanting (all the four branches) and Divya Prabandham recitation three sessions a day, with about 200 scholars taking part. Over 10 hours of chanting each day culminating in an enchanting Satrumurai in the mornings and evenings was witnessed by hundreds of devotees.

The other highlights are special Kalyana Uthsavam and Sayanaadhi Vaasam on the second day, consecration of the new front arch of the temple on the third day morning, followed by an expansive and exquisite Thirumanjanam and a grand Saatrumurai. A special Purappadu on Sesha Vahanam on the final day evening provided a fitting conclusion to a wonderful experience.

The second and third day events were covered through live webcast and made available at www.svdd.com. Since it was a spontaneous decision, viewers could not be notified in advance. In spite of this, there were about 700 hits on an average, according to the service provider

Brahmothsavam commences

The annual Brahmothsavam commenced here yesterday (May 31) with customary verve and vitality. The invitation is available here as well as under the menu 'What's New'. The events looked forward to most are Garuda Vaahanam (June 2), Yaanai Vaahanam (June 5) and the Car festical (June 6). Viewers may plan their visit to the temple according to their preferences and convenience.

Also, there is a possibility that Yaanai Vahanam will be webcast live on the evening of June 5th. Devotees are requested to keep a tab on this.

Accordingly, an award for 'Super Excellence' will be bestowed upon four participants. The eligibility criterion was arrived at by providing a relaxation of 3/100 episodes of the Quest. Thus, the qualification cut-off came to 194/200.

The following is the list of the four top performers who qualified for 'Super Excellence' in respect of Quests 1 to 200, along with the number of successful participation. Our hearty congratulations to them.
